I was in Montauk, New York for the weekend helping some friends move. I got up early to watch the sunrise. The sole of one of my boots had fallen off the day before, so I clip - clopped the mile down the the shore. There was a bagel shop open and I bought a Spice Hobo, the best breakfast sandwich on earth, and walked through the dunes to the shore. Crows and sea gulls were circling the foamy shore, a lone fisherman cast into the surf. As the green blue sunlight illuminated the crashing waves, I noticed a long line of deer tracks stretching down the beach, down near the shore line. I couldn't get the image of a lone deer walking the beach in the early morning out of my head. I painted this to maybe explain why she was down there.
