    The Pacific Plains

I was traveling back home from the west coast. Out of the train's window I saw amber grass, swelling into the distance as far as I could see. Time passed, the sun began to set, and then great striped rocks appeared, rising like sea stacks in golden water. I could see bright pheasants darting after insects, then retreating to their reef, somewhere in the Great Plains.

    Giclee print.
