In the woods up north it was snowing heavily. The forest looked flooded with white, and I waded through the drifts deeper into the black trees. There I found a grove of birch, covered in snow and almost invisible. A crow stared down at me from the branches, and we both waited for me to catch my breath so we could once more be submerged in the silence.
